No such luck. Poor Daddy was laid low as well.

Marshwiggles laid low by tummy bug

This Saturday evening sees us staying home, having cancelled plans to go out, because we seem to be hosting a tummy bug. Pip was laid low yesterday, and seems to be recoved except for the "convalescent crankiness". Emmi and Ben are both in bed right now. They ate a great lunch, and then a couple of hours later both of them were attacked! The rest of us have had a great tea - eating chocolate cake baked earlier in the day - trying to fend off the tummy bug! Here's hoping he's worn out his welcome and will leave the rest of us alone!

Evacuated!

We were shaken out of bed this morning when a local recylcing plant blew up!

David left shortly after the first explosions to help with the fire service, and then he called at 7:00 to tell me there was an evacuation order for our town and to get the children up and leave! Fortunately we have friends nearby (but not too near!) who could take us, and Lucy the dog. We stayed until after supper.

Quite a bit of excitement for the start of the week!

I need an eleven year old girl

We had the treat of having a friend's eleven year old girl spend most of the day with us. She was working to complete an AWANA section which required her to "help with small children for 1 or 2 hours". We did 4 times as much!

With her help, I was able to complete a whole day of homeschooling, clean the house, move the laundry along significantly, HAVE A NAP!!!!, bake cookies (the girls did most of the work on these!) and make 2 lasagnas - one for supper and one for the freezer. Wow! Where can I get me one of these? (Her parents insisted on taking her home.)

The good news is I'll have one in four years! And I'll have a crew of snowshovelling, lawn moving, cookie-batch-destroying-in-one-sitting boys too!

So if your oldest is 3, let me know in 4 years so I can lend you my 11 year old daughter for a day.

With All Our Love

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Unfortunately, we did not send out cards in the mail to all our friends and relations - sorry guys. But we did manage to make some heart cookies - especially one really big one encrusted with sprinkles that will make its way into Daddy's lunch tomorrow!

On the Front Cover!

Yes, our family is on the cover of Homeschooling Horizons magazine! They are doing an experiment to discover their lung capacity - you fill a 2L pop bottle with water, turn it upside-down over a bowl with water in it (opening of bottle below water level in bowl), insert a bendy straw in opening of bottle, take a deep breath, and BLOW! Mummy could empty it in one blow!
Homeschooling Horizons is a great Canadian magazine for homeschoolers. They invite submission of photos, so we did - and there we are!
